Plaquenil and low white blood count

I was diagnosed with discoid lupus 18 years ago and was prescribed Plaquenil, which I have taken since then. In October 2012, I was also diagnosed with Sjogrens Syndrome but, as I was already taking Plaquenil, was advised the treatment was the same for Sjogrens.

Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is a drug that is classified as an anti-malarial drug. Plaquenil is prescribed for the treatment or prevention of malaria. It is also prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and the side effects of lupus such as hair loss, joint pain, and more. Anemia or low white blood count Although Sjögren’s syndrome is often treatable, this disease is poorly understood and cannot be cured with current medications. Sjögren’s syndrome is often not diagnosed correctly. In part, this is because dry eyes and dry mouth are common symptoms. Doctors give trusted answers on uses, effects, side-effects, and cautions Dr. Dugan on plaquenil and low wbc This drug can effect the bone marrow and make the white blood count and platelets low. Your doctor may want to stop this medication, but don't stop it till you talk to the doctor. Good luck!

From research I have done online, I gather that low white cell count can also be a symptom of the Sjogrens in itself. At a recent medical with my doctor, blood tests were taken and I had a call a couple of days later telling me to stop taking g Plaquenil immediately as I have a very low white cell count and that it is sometimes a side effect of Plaquenil.

White blood cell count decreased is found among people who take Plaquenil, especially for people who are female, 60+ old, have been taking the drug for 1 month, also take medication Enbrel, and have High blood pressure SIDE EFFECTS. The following adverse reactions have been identified during post-approval use of PLAQUENIL or other 4-aminoqunoline compounds. Because these reactions are reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not always possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to drug exposure. I took Plaquenil for 8 month, I started in November 2017 with 400 mg two months then I started 200 mg for 5 months. The count of white cells was 5.7 in November and in January was 3.7 and in May become 2.5 the decrease of white cells due to the use of Plaquenil tablet My email is [email protected]
